Although spider veins are generally harmless, they can cause discomfort, and most often people want to remove them mostly for cosmetic purposes. Unfortunately, failure to address the severity of lower extremity reflux as the root cause can result in poor outcomes. This will end up costing you more money in the long run and sometimes look no better than when you started. That is why an extensive questionnaire and many times even a complimentary venous ultrasound screening will be performed without charge.

The condition of the spider veins will have to be assessed comprehensively to determine the best treatment for you. Several options may be discussed during your free initial consultation and we will always take our time to explain everything in great detail so that you feel confident in our treatment plans. Some of the potential treatment options will include the following cosmetic treatments:

Varithena

Varithena is a modality used to treat small varicose veins or large branch veins below and above the knee. This minimally invasive treatment, involves injecting a microfoam agent into the incompetent vein with a small gauge butterfly access needle causing it to close and redirect blood to nearby healthy veins. This assists in draining the blood away from the surface skin through the existing vein network without harm.

What is Varithena?

Varithena is a minimally invasive treatment for patients who have extensive varicosities located on one or both legs. The micronized foam agent is oxygenated and then injected as very tiny bubbles into the damaged veins. Developed to be safer and less painful than traditional vein treatments, the Varithena procedure involves no incisions or stitches. In most cases the procedure is complete in less than 10 minutes and patients are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

This procedure utilizes an ultrasound machine to accurately locate the position of the diseased vein, and subsequently map out the tributary veins, or branches responsible for continued flow to the malfunctioning vessel. A sclerosant solution is then precisely injected into the diseased vein, which causes the vessel walls to collapse. The body will naturally close and absorb the vein over time.

Ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy can also be used on the small to medium branches veins which can cause varicose veins in time. The foam is a thicker consistency compared to normal sclerotherapy medication. The medicine attaches to the vein wall and triggers the body to eliminate the vein over time.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS) is performed to close the deeper incompetent branches that may eventually cause varicose veins and recurrent spider veins. These branches can cause pain, swelling and contribute to reticular and spider veins as well. Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy and ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy are treatments that are used to treat deeper tributary veins and branches that are not seen on the skin surface but lie just below the skin surface. Ultrasound allows for the accurate placement of Asclera 1% foam solution into these vessels so that the visible skin level treatments work more effectively and lower the overall cost of services when indicated by our examination.

Microfoam Sclerotherapy Treatment

Microfoam Sclerotherapy Treatment is for the blue/purple reticular veins and red spider veins at the skin’s surface.

During this treatment, a sclerosing solution is injected through micro-needles into the spider veins.

The treated vein segment gradually decreases in size over several weeks. Do not expect these veins to go away in one treatment. To obtain the best results, we suggest a series of multiple sclerotherapy treatment sessions depending on the severity of the veins.

After your sclerotherapy, it is normal for your treated areas to appear bruised for a few weeks. In fact they may look worse after the first treatment for up to 3 weeks and then begin to fade and look better over time. So timing is everything!

You may resume normal activities immediately after treatment, with the exception of sun exposure and use of tanning products. You must keep your legs covered and limit exposure to sunlight for 1 week. Avoid submerging in water for 1 week (bathtubs, hot tubs, pools, beaches, pedicures). A 20-30mmHg compression stocking should be worn for 2 days constantly and 5 more days consistantly post Foam Sclero for best results.

VeinGogh

VeinGogh is a safe, noninvasive radiofrequency treatment for the smallest spider veins.

Its proprietary Microburst Technology enables VeinGogh to be effectively used on all skin types with great precision for more youthful and spider-vein free legs.

What is VeinGogh?

VeinGogh is a relatively new vein treatment that uses microburst technology to eliminate small spider veins and networks of veins known as telangliectasia. VeinGogh uses an innovative process known as the Ohmic Thermolysis System, which uses heat to collapse a damaged vein. The collapsed vein will eventually be absorbed by the body.

This innovative microburst technology lets vein specialists at Spider Vein Specialists to treat smaller defective veins with remarkable precision. It is important to understand that the greater precision, the lower are the risks of damaging surrounding vessels and tissues during the procedure. This is also the reason why VeinGogh is the treatment of choice for sensitive regions.

It is minimally invasive and time-efficient that is safe for all skin types. The downtime is short and the discomfort is minimal to zero because the heat administered is transferred using a fiber that is almost as thin as human hair.

Who Is A Candidate for VeinGogh Treatment?

VeinGogh is more efficient for treatment of smaller veins because of its precision. VeinGogh is generally safe for all patients. It is only important that the patient is at least 18 years old and is in good health.

Patients with implanted devices, such as pacemakers, may not be candidates for treatment. This is because the device’s functions may be interrupted by the heat from the VeinGogh device.

Pregnancy is another reason to re-schedule treatment is pregnancy. Pregnant women and those planning to get pregnant soon are discouraged from undergoing such procedure to avoid any complication.

How Does VeinGogh Work?

The VeinGogh procedure typically takes just a few minutes to complete, depending on the size of the treatment area and the number of veins to be addressed.

A probe installed with a thin fiber is inserted into the defective vein. The controlled heat delivered directly to the defective vein will damage its walls and cause it collapse and shut completely. The closed vein will slowly be broken down by your body’s immune system.

VeinGogh works best on veins that are not larger than 0.3mm. It is not designed for larger vessels or vessels in the deeper tissues.

How Long Does VeinGogh Treatment Take?

Depending on your condition, the treatment can last from 10-20 minutes including preparation time.

Spider Vein Specialists has the most sophisticated devices and highly-trained staff, allowing them to perform vein treatments fast and safe.

How Long Does it Take to Recover from VeinGogh Treatment?

One of the reasons why many individuals prefer VeinGogh because it has no downtime. You might experience mild tenderness and redness around the treated area, which usually goes away several hours after treatment. The treated vessels will look like tiny scratches along the treated vessel for up to 3 weeks.

Some patients can get desired results after a single session, others need several visits to achieve satisfactory results. For telangliectasia and spider veins, most patients only need 2-3 sessions.

How to Prepare for a VeinGogh Procedure?

  • Disclose any medications, dietary supplements, and herbal supplements that you are taking. Consult with your physician about undergoing any vein treatment, particularly if you are taking antibiotics or maintenance medications.
  • Avoid alcoholic drinks for at least 48 hours prior to treatment. Alcohol has various effects on the body which can hinder with the treatment.
